SAFETY CERTIFICATIONS FOR COACHES & VOLUNTEERS

Ensuring the safety of our participants and community is a priority, and resources are available to the Club and Volunteers to achieve this goal. The steps below are required by State and Federal laws which Washington Youth Soccer and Terrace Brier Soccer Club must adhere to in order to operate our program. These are a prerequisite to work with TBSC youth athletes and are provided at no cost to Coaches and Volunteers.

SafeSport Certification
The U.S. Center for SafeSport is designated by Congress through the Protecting Young Victims from Sexual Abuse and Safe Sport Authorization Act of 2017 (pdf) to serve as the independent national safe sport organization, with the responsibility for developing policies and procedures to prevent the emotional, physical, and sexual abuse of amateur athletes.

SafeSport: Online Training
Frequency: Recertification required annually after June 1, valid from date of completion.
Duration: about 60-90 minutes or less.

Risk Management (Background Check)
Frequency: Required annually, for the season. Must submit after Apr 1st, will cover Fall and Spring seasons.
Duration: 5 minutes or less.

Cardiac Arrest and Concussion Awareness

In the past the WPL required  coaches to take classes on the signs and symptoms of Cardiac Arrest and Concussions.  This year, coaches and managers are only required to take one class in the US Soccer Learning Center: the Introduction to Safe and Healthy Playing Environment also referred to as Intro to Safety.

To complete this course all coaches and managers will have to complete the following steps: 

1. Go to the US Soccer Learning Center https://learning.ussoccer.com/

2 Create an account or Log into your account. Your name, email and birthdate must match what is in GotSport. This is very important. If they don’t match then the accounts will not sync. 

3. Once you are Logged in, from the home screen click the Coaching Education Button

4. Go to Courses > Supplemental courses > Intro to Safety>

5. Find the course titled.  INTRODUCTION TO SAFE AND HEALTHY PLAYING ENVIRONMENTS

6. Start the course. 

7. Once the course is completed you will need to sync your Gotsport Account with your Learning Center account.  To sync the accounts follow these steps:

  • Log into GotSport
  • Go to profile
  • Click the tab – Get USSF ID – once your accounts are synced
  • Click Get Certifications
  • Check to see if the status for the requirement has been accepted

8. If your account does not sync with USSF you can update your number manually by 

  • Going to your profile in the US Soccer Learning Center,
  • Copy the USSF – ID that was assigned to you
  • Add that number to your GotSport Account in the USSF Field.
